Jump Around Town, Orem

2

I had the great opportunity to go visit Jump Around Town, a new jumping place located in Orem.

Jump Around Town currently has 2 great bounce houses, one huge bounce slide, and one bounce house/slide with a basketball hoop.

We arrived just before 6:00 pm and it was somewhat difficult to find. In fact, we tried to find it one night without the address (now I know to always write addresses and/or phone numbers down) and ended up going home since we were way past last-accepted guest time and returned the next day when it was light outside. Although the address is 165 N. 1330 W., Orem, once on 1330 W., I would recommend to drive past the street 165 N. to turn west onto a street that contains Building C.

Once inside, you are welcomed to this beautiful painting:

There is a place to store shoes:

The Bounces:

On January 12, 2012, Jump Around Town will be getting a large jumping pillow to place in the center. I am really excited for that to come and will have to go back when they receive it. Until then, admission is half off!

I enjoyed the castles and slides that they currently have. (Yes, I did try some of them out without my child.) The children playing seemed to love the Dolphin Slide and I watched them run from the slide, to the castle, to a different slide, to a castle over and over again. They just could not seem to get enough of it.

There are also picnic tables and couches in the area so that parents may watch their kids and the kids have a place to rest after all the running around they do. Free wi-fi is also available. Concessions may be bought at the front desk for a very reasonable price as well.

I also enjoyed that there was a restroom directly connected to the play area. Parents don’t have to go far to take children to the restroom and can also stand outside the door while they watch their other children play.

This is a place I would strongly recommend.  Children love it, it’s a great price (especially if you go by January 11!), and the owners are very friendly people.

Jump Around Town has great prices and a special on Tuesdays:
Pay your age – $1.00 per year old
7 year olds and up – $7.00
Children under 1 year old and parents – free
Families of 5 or more – $20.00
TUESDAYS – Every child just $1.00 per hour all day long
Remember, until January 11, 2012, all admission is half off!

Helping Hands Milk Bank

0

Helping Hands Milk Bank (HHMB) is stepping-up its efforts to find mothers who have excess breast milk they can donate to help critically ill premature infants. Breast-feeding mother or not, you can also help by spreading the word to find those mothers who can donate.

HHMB collects excess breast milk from mothers who have a surplus to be formulated into nutritional products that benefit the world’s most fragile infant population. The breast milk is sent to Prolacta Bioscience where it is tested, pasteurized and concentrated into clinically proven human milk products for critically ill, premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Prolacta Bioscience is a for-profit company dedicated to cutting edge research and products to save the lives of preemies. A recent study in the Journal of Pediatrics showed that Prolacta’s fortifier (Prolact+ H2MF) clinically reduced the odds of developing NEC (a major threat preemies) by 77% in premature infants weighing 500g – 1250g (

The donation process is easy: You can donate from the comfort of your own home. Helping Hands allows busy mothers to apply online in about 15 minutes. All necessary materials and cost of shipping are covered.

In collaboration with Prolacta, for every ounce of qualified breast milk collected through HHMB, $1 is contributed to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, in support of breast cancer research.

Yeah Samake Speech, Mali President Candidate

0

Come meet Yeah Samake, a BYU graduate and frontrunner for President of Mali. Hear Yeah tell in his own words about growing up in one of the poorest villages in one of the poorest countries on earth, how he came to America, found the LDS church, and then returned to Mali to serve his people.

You and your children will hear how Yeah walked to school every day with an empty stomach, determined to get an education. He will show you America through the eyes of an African with no money in his pocket, expound on the blessings of a BYU education, and explain the difficult decision to return to Mali with his family. He will talk about receiving 86% of the vote for mayor in a 90% Muslim country, and how he changed the culture of corruption to turn his city into a model of the rule of law in Africa. He will also tell you about the courageous moment when he challenged the current president of Mali and decided to run himself.

You’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for the freedoms and abundance we enjoy in America, more hope for Africa, more faith that one person can indeed make a difference, and an increased love for God’s children around the world.

La Puente Restaurant, Orem

0

A couple of weeks ago, my family and I went to La Puente in Orem because we had a great coupon deal and I was in the mood for cheap Mexican food – I was hoping they would satisfy that craving.

Being a new restaurant, it looked nice inside.  I enjoyed the bright-colored walls and the random little decorations that Mexican restaurants always seem to have.

There was a mix-up with our coupon and food but they were great to work with and made sure we were being taken care of.  The server came out with our food and we knew immediately there was no way we were going to be able to finish all the food on our plate.  It was a large plate with a large burrito, and a good amount of rice and beans.

The portions:  We only ordered smothered burritos and they were very large portions.  However, for the normal price (around $12), I didn’t think it was worth that much.  Our coupon that made each plate $4 was worth it, however.  Other meals seemed to about the same portion size.

The service:  Decent.  Our waitress forgot about giving us anything to drink for the first 10-15 minutes, even despite our asking.  Apparently she wasn’t the one in charge of actually bringing us water, however, so perhaps there was a mix up.  The workers were very friendly, however.

The atmosphere:  Loved the bright colors but it was also really bright inside the restaurant.  I personally would have preferred dimmer lighting to make the restaurant more intimate, but I really have no complaints.  It was very clean and very Mexican.

The deals:  Today, Monday, November 7, is their official grand opening.  Buy a drink for $2 and get a free entree up to $8.  Other deals can be found in the mail and through various online discount sites.

The price:  Most entrees are between $9-15.  Al a carte menu items are generally under $5.

Will I go back?  Probably not.  The food was a little too Americanized for me (I was looking for some seriously cheaply-made Mexican food) with the entree prices being too high – I enjoy making homemade Mexican food for the perfect flavors.  But that’s not to say that you won’t enjoy it.

Infertility

0

I will admit, I have yet to experience any infertility problems.  In fact, I have been very blessed with a beautiful daughter.  But I have been thinking a lot about infertility recently.  Because what do I say to all of my friends and neighbors who are struggling with these issues?  Not that C. Jane gave me any answers, but the whole article gave me solace anyway.  It gave me a glimpse into that world.  It helped me to understand more about infertility.

I would recommend reading the post yourself, but in case you don’t have time, here are some of her thoughts in her own words:

“This past week I was asked by Studio 5 to be a guest on their Sensitivity Training segment. They asked me to speak about how to talk to someone experiencing infertility. During the interview I said a phrase I didn’t get to really explain “there’s light at the end of the tunnel.” It sounds so cliche and trite out of context. I didn’t mean conception.

“I meant: the light at the end of the tunnel comes when the light inside of yourself illuminates who you really are, and what you’re really capable of.

“That’s when infertility becomes less about having a baby in your arms and more about gratitude for having experienced it.”

BYU Women’s Volleyball – Upcoming Discounts

0

Back when I was in college (it makes me sound so old, but it really hasn’t been very long), volleyball games were some of my most favorite events to attend.  It’s a fast-paced game and the crowd was always sure to be energetic.

This week, BYU’s Women’s Volleyball team has two games, each of which have $1 admission!

Thursday is 3-for-3 Night. If fans mention the offer at the ticket office, they will receive admission for $1, a small popcorn for $1 and a small flavor pop for $1. Saturday is this season’s Y. Game, where members of other BYU teams will come out to support the volleyball team. Admission is $1 for those who bring a can of food to the match.
