A couple of weeks ago, my family and I went to La Puente in Orem because we had a great coupon deal and I was in the mood for cheap Mexican food – I was hoping they would satisfy that craving.

Being a new restaurant, it looked nice inside.  I enjoyed the bright-colored walls and the random little decorations that Mexican restaurants always seem to have.

There was a mix-up with our coupon and food but they were great to work with and made sure we were being taken care of.  The server came out with our food and we knew immediately there was no way we were going to be able to finish all the food on our plate.  It was a large plate with a large burrito, and a good amount of rice and beans.

The portions:  We only ordered smothered burritos and they were very large portions.  However, for the normal price (around $12), I didn’t think it was worth that much.  Our coupon that made each plate $4 was worth it, however.  Other meals seemed to about the same portion size.

The service:  Decent.  Our waitress forgot about giving us anything to drink for the first 10-15 minutes, even despite our asking.  Apparently she wasn’t the one in charge of actually bringing us water, however, so perhaps there was a mix up.  The workers were very friendly, however.

The atmosphere:  Loved the bright colors but it was also really bright inside the restaurant.  I personally would have preferred dimmer lighting to make the restaurant more intimate, but I really have no complaints.  It was very clean and very Mexican.

The deals:  Today, Monday, November 7, is their official grand opening.  Buy a drink for $2 and get a free entree up to $8.  Other deals can be found in the mail and through various online discount sites.

The price:  Most entrees are between $9-15.  Al a carte menu items are generally under $5.

Will I go back?  Probably not.  The food was a little too Americanized for me (I was looking for some seriously cheaply-made Mexican food) with the entree prices being too high – I enjoy making homemade Mexican food for the perfect flavors.  But that’s not to say that you won’t enjoy it.
