Now is the time to sign up for swimming lessons in Utah County!

If you are looking for swimming lessons for your kids this summer, you need to look into SwimKids. Their method of teaching children to swim is unique and is allowing them to teach babies as young as 3 months old.  There is a 98% retention rate so your children will be unlikely to forget what they have learned (much like riding a bike).

Liz, the owner, began training in an extreme type of swim training but thought it was too harsh and created her own technique that has been successful for over 30 years. Each private lesson is a short 15 minutes. It is short but it is perfectly suited for children’s attention and physical ability. Many have been skeptical of the short lessons but have found them to be very successful in teaching their children how to swim.

There are 8 levels depending on your children’s abilities. There are many instructors at many locations to make it easier for you to schedule your children at a convenient time for you.

When you register, you can register per lesson or per month.

SwimKids also hosts other events including an upcoming summer camp and a little triathlon for the kids.

SwimKids is looking to expand and for more pools, especially in the Provo area. The biggest requirement for home owner pools is that it needs to be heated. They will rent the pool from you each month during the summer which is an easy way to make a little extra cash for your pool and allow them to pay for all of the chemicals to keep your pool clean! Right now, they are specifically looking for pools in Provo area, Riverton, Herriman, Daybreak, South Jordan, Bluffdale, and Draper. If you know of any or would like to submit your pool for consideration, please send us an email to [email protected].

Currently, they have indoor pools at Holladay and Provo. Outdoor pools include Midvale, Sandy/Draper, Herriman, and Lehi.

Monster Energy Supercross Review

This is a sponsored post. Please refer to our disclosure statement.

While some of my friends have been to a Supercross before, I had never been and had no idea what to expect.

The Monster Energy Supercross came to Salt Lake City, Utah last weekend at Rice-Eccles Stadium. It was a one-day event.

To start it all off, I had never been to this stadium before that I can recall and so instead of following our trusty Google Maps, we followed the signs for parking which suddenly stopped so we decided to park in a parking lot. As we walked towards the stadium, we realized that there were hundreds of closer parking spots but didn’t want to go back for our car so we walked about a mile to the stadium and was totally late for the event. We chatted with our friends and they had done the same thing. So funny.

Once it all started, it was so fun to watch all of the motorcyclists race each other on the track. There were a few accidents and close calls with a lot of upsets. The exciting ones were at the end when they were racing for 15 and 20 minutes but unfortunately for our family, it got a little late (we left around 10:45 pm) so we missed the last couple of races.

When we go again, we’ll be sure to make sure we have warm clothes (it turned into a chilly night), blankets, and a little extra money for some food to keep us occupied between races.

Explore Utah Valley: Sub Zero Ice Cream Review

Sub Zero Ice Cream Review

If you haven’t been to Sub Zero Ice Cream, you’re missing out on a unique experience to watch your ice cream be made fresh right in front of you.

Sub Zero started in 2005 with one location in Orem, Utah. It was connected to their Mexican Food Restaurant and was more of the add on to the restaurant. Well, turns out, the ice cream became quite popular to open new Utah locations and after appearing on Shark Tank, the business started really expanding to outside of Utah.

The unique thing about Sub Zero is that they have made getting ice cream an experience. You walk in, order from a menu, and watch it be made fresh in front of you.

Sub Zero Ice Cream Menu

First you choose the cream. The choices include lactose free, vegan, sugar free, low-fat, and cream. Next you choose your flavor. You can choose a combination of flavors to get a unique flavor or just choose one. After that, you have the option to add mix-ins. Mix-ins include fruit, candy, nuts, and baked goods. Then they add in Nitrogen into your cream, flavor, and mix-ins to create your ice cream.

Smoothies, drinks, Italian ice, and other options may be available at your local Sub Zero.

Sub Zero Ice Cream Review
Italian Ice

I personally have always loved Sub Zero. It has been a couple of years since I’ve been but we used to be regulars when we lived closer to the Provo location that was in Brigham’s Landing near BYU. I have always loved being able to choose my own cream. When you order, you don’t have to look at a special menu or choose from one of the few options they have available for unique dietary restrictions; you get to order like everyone else.

The flavors are always spot on. I always enjoy my fruit flavors but others that I have tried were always good. We used to be a fan of Mt. Dew flavor with gummy bear mix-ins. I have no idea why it tasted so good but it was a favorite. I usually enjoy a black raspberry with Oreo or brownie mix-ins. It’s the fruity/chocolate flavor that I’m looking for.

You can also choose to make the ice cream harder which seems to be how it was originally back so many years ago. They add more Nitrogen instead of a slightly softer ice cream. I actually really enjoy it both ways.

Sub Zero also offers a Soda Lab where you can choose flavors and mix them to create your own unique sodas.

The Provo Center Street location (62 W. Center Street) is a fun place to hang out. They have an upstairs with a gorgeous view of downtown Provo. They also have some great walls for those of us who love to take photos of ourselves, family, friends, and food while enjoying ice cream. It fits in with the theme of Downtown Provo so when you’re in the area, make sure you stop by.

Sub Zero Ice Cream Review

Here in Utah County, we have a few Sub Zero locations including Provo Center Street, Provo Towne Center Mall, Spanish Fork, and Alpine.

Utah Spring Break Ideas: The Little Mermaid, Ballet West

0
Ballet West

This week the Utah Valley Moms blog is featuring things to do over Spring Break in Utah with kids. Today’s feature is Ballet West.

From March 30 through April 2, 2017, you will have the opportunity to see The Little Mermaid, an enchanted ballet perfect for the whole family. Although this is not quite over Spring Break here in Utah County, it would be a great way to kick off the break.

Join Ballet West II dancers and students from the Ballet West Academy for a family adventure under the sea. Take a trip into Hans Christian Andersen’s watery world, complete with a brave mermaid, a prince in search of true love, and a devious sea witch.

Performance schedule:

  • March 30 at 7 pm
  • March 31 at 7 pm
  • April 1 at 2 pm and 7 pm
  • April 2 at 12 pm

Buy tickets to The Little Mermaid. Family event, recommended for ages 3 and older, no babes in arms.

The Salt Lake City Toyota Dealership Association is a main sponsor of Ballet West.

Over the past year or so, we have been looking for a good car for our family. We have been looking at Toyota Highlanders specifically. This week, Mark Miller Toyota has kindly offered to let us drive a brand new Toyota Highlander.

Things I love about the Highlander:

  • Space. The first 2 rows have ample space for leg room and with the 3rd row lying down, there’s plenty of space in the back of the car. If we need more seats, the 3rd row allows for 8 passengers total. We recently made a huge Costco trip, bringing bags of mulch home and some groceries. We had 1 seat lying down in the 3rd row to fit the bags of mulch and everything and everyone fit nicely.
  • Smooth. The car drives so smoothly. It has great suspension and the entire ride is so comfortable.
  • Dashboard and controls on the steering wheel. There really isn’t anything else I need from a car when it comes to technology. Maps, audio, Bluetooth for music and calling, and all sort of unnecessary capabilities that I’m realizing are completely necessary.
  • Other things:  keyless entry and a push start for the engine, heated seats, sunroof, and amazing turn radius.

Follow Utah Valley Moms on Instagram to see how we’re using our Toyota Highlander this week for family time and preparing for Spring Break!
