Soldier Hollow Classic & Giveaway 2015

1

From September 4-7 at the Soldier Hollow Resort in Midway, the Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship will be happening! It is a 4-day competition and is the world’s foremost annual sheepdog championship.

Soldier Hollow Classic

These sheep are very wary of anything with four legs and a tail.  One wrong move and they’re likely to turn and fight or scatter and head for the scrub oak at the top of the hill (there are no fences to keep them in).  But these Border Collies are the world’s best sheep dogs and it’s up to them to reassure the sheep that all will be well if they just fall into line and do what is needed. This all happens while listening to detailed instruction, via whistles and calls from their handler up to 400 yards away down the mountainside.  The winner is the dog who gets the job done and who does it well, taking care of his sheep with no unnecessary stress and no abuse.

Along with the competition, food will be available for purchase and there will also be entertainment. Plan to spend a few hours up in Midaway to really enjoy the event. Other activities include:

  • Local food vendors
  • IFA Country Festival

  • Police K-9 Demonstrations
  • Splash Dogs
  • Other Kid-Friendly Activities

K1 Speed Review

0

If you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary, visit K1 Speed in Sandy (725 E 10600 S). It is an indoor electric kart racing track.

We had the opportunity to try K1 Speed for free for date night. It had been about 12 years since the last time I had been racing indoors and I was quite nervous about it. I am just under 5 feet tall and 12 years ago, I had the hardest time racing the pedals. This problem, on top of getting really motion sick from the racing and being so close to the ground has kept me from trying go kart racing again but I thought I’d try this place anyway.

When we walked in, we were immediately meet with the manager who was friendly and didn’t seem frustrated at all that there was a good chance that the fact that I was merely watching the cars racing made me sick and we might not stay. He encouraged us to sit down on a couch and relax for as long as we wanted. His kindness led us to getting up and signing up for a race.

image

The workers are super friendly. They explained the rules and helped us get ready for our race. They made sure everything fit properly and even got me a booster seat to help me reach the pedals on the adult karts (which I obviously wasn’t tall enough for).

image

The race track was tough as it’s small and I went pretty slowly around the track. I think though if I was to practice more, I’d do much better. But if you love kart racing, this is definitely a must-try, although the prices are high for races.

K1 Speed also offers party options. There is a separate room with a sound system, screen, and tables and chairs.

La Nay Ferme

0
This is a sponsored post. Please refer to our disclosure statement.

Last week we had the opportunity to go to La Nay Ferme Farm and get a share of vegetables. My family agreed, those vegetables were so delicious and perfect for every dinner we ate with them. It’s always nice to have fresh food for meal times but when they are picked the same day you’re eating them, well, there’s really just nothing like it.

La Nay Ferme is a Provo garden that provides vegetable shares to the community.

La Nay Ferme is not cheap food. La Nay Ferme is high quality, highly nutritious and safe to eat produce. It is a one-of-a-kind farm that promises their CSA members same day harvested farm vegetables. Our share was so fresh and absolutely delicious.

La Nay Ferme doesn’t poison their CSA members. They do not use sprays to kill anything so plan on finding bugs from time to time. This is proof that the produce is clean from sprays, safe to eat and integrity food which is the new “organic.”

La Nay Ferme posts what CSA members receive in shares on their blog Saturday.

La Nay Ferme does not grow fruits for sale.

To purchase directly from our farm, everyone prepays and can find the best option for their family at this link.

You can buy directly from La Na Ferme’s greens from Real Foods Market in Orem, Days Market in Provo and Heber, Liberty Fresh Heights in Sugar House or order from Winder Farms. You can also buy directly from their farm.

To find the farm (4800 E. Lawn Drive, Provo), take the street Lawn Drive headed North and follow it until you reach the cemetery. The farm is on the north side and pictured below. Walk into the storage building and to your right will be the coolers with your bags of food. Find the correct one and you can be on your way!

Curtis and Kid’s Day at the Park

Join the Provo Mayor on August 12 from 10-1 pm at Pioneer Park for a party. He’ll talk a little about what he does and listen to hear about what kids do.

In his post about the event he says:

Because my friends from the city have helped me plan a day at Pioneer Park on August 12th from 10:00 AM – 1:oo PM (I know some of you are lucky enough to still get naps). You and your parents can come and learn about what it takes to be a mayor and all the great people I get to work with like our fire and police crews and some of our city services like garbage and recycling. We’ll also have popsicles, giant inflatables and the first 50 kids will receive a #ProvoRocks shirt! And make sure to bring your swimming suit because the water feature will be going full blast (I’ll bring mine too).

Seems like a fun event for the kids of Provo!
