Family-Friendly Hikes in Utah

1

Summer is the perfect time to take the family up to the mountains and enjoy some time together in the great outdoors. Recently Wanderookie gave us 9 great ideas to cool off this summer and showed us some lakes, rivers, and splash pads. That’s one great thing about Utah. Not only do we have lakes and rivers, but we also have the beautiful mountains to escape into. And what’s more, there are even plenty of trails in the valley to use!

Here are some ideas of some great family-friendly hikes to explore:

1. Hike the G – Utah Valley

It’s steep but rewarding to get to the top.

2. Buffalo Peak: The Triple Threat Trail – Utah Valley

Enjoy a view of the lake, city, and mountain from this trail.

3. Ogden River Parkway – Ogden

This is a great trail to gauge a child’s interest and endurance in hikes.

4. Kanarraville Falls – Kanarraville

Water, shade, logs, ladders, and slides … the kids will love it!

5. Lisa Falls – Salt Lake

A short hike to unusual falls.

6. The Grotto – Payson

A shorter hike to a falls and a little area for the kids to wade in the water.

Join your local Chick-fil-A on July 14, 2015 for Cow Appreciation Day!

“Fully dressed as a cow” means effort to be dressed like a cow from head to toe. “Partial cow attire” means just a cow accessory, such as a cow-printed hat, vest or purse. People dressed in partial attire will be awarded an entrée. Those who are dressed as a full cow will receive a full meal.

You can visit cowappreciationday.com to download spots, tails, ears, and other cow-related accessories. We printed them off and have kept them from year to year to make it easy to participate each year.

Provo Fireworks

This is a sponsored post. Please refer to our disclosure statement.

If you’re in Utah County and looking for fireworks, don’t forget about local company Provo Fireworks. You can order online (no local store) and pick up your order of fireworks for free in Provo or you can order delivery for only $5 if you are in the Provo/Orem area.

Provo Fireworks

The owner wants to make sure that every single person has a good experience working with Provo Fireworks. If there are any problems with your order, please contact him – if there are problems with your order or even if you go to light the firework and realize it’s a dud. Contact him and he will be more than willing to work with you on fixing the problem.

Little extras are even provided (glow in the dark necklaces for the girls, stink bombs for the boys). Provo Fireworks is serious about wanting to make sure you have a great experience with buying from them.

On the buying experience:

Provo Fireworks provides videos for most of their products, especially the pricier items like the Aerial fireworks. That is one great thing about ProvoFireworks.com versus walking up to a tent and buying from there. Also, just in general, it’s a lot more convenient to buy online – no lines, no sun, no parking necessary. You can buy at any time and as long as you have the web, Provo Fireworks is available for you to purchase.

On the product side:

Provo Fireworks keeps their prices very low. Because it’s just a website, there are fewer costs associated with the business and therefore, firework prices are cheaper.

Provo Fireworks provides a free pickup option, free delivery in Provo/Orem on orders over $100 or a reasonably priced delivery for orders under $100.

The prices are so reasonable that Provo Fireworks is cheaper than the stores in Evanston, Wyoming.  This is significant as many people who take their fireworks seriously take the drive up to Evanston to buy their items.  The fact is, there are now cheaper prices right here in Utah.

Highland Glen Park

Highland Glen Park is located at 4800 Knight Avenue, Highland, Utah. This park is right next to Lone Peak High School. It is the perfect place for a picnic, walking, biking, playing, fishing, and being on the lake.

Highland Glen Park Utah highland glen park utah highland glen park

Highland Glen Park has a playground, a beach volleyball court, trails, a lake, and a pavilion. It is one of the most fun parks to explore in Utah Valley without going up a canyon. There is parking near the lake but you can also park above the park and walk down. As far as getting into the lake goes, many kids do, however, the lake is somewhat dirty. Ducks and geese are also wandering around the area so bring your left over salads and take some time to feed the ducks while at the park.

The Candy Bomber “Flying” Over Orem

0
Free Utah Valley event

Gail Halvorsen was a pilot during World War II. One day while amongst the German children after the war, he realized that the children were delighted that he had a candy bar. To cheer them up, he hand-wrapped candy bars into little parachutes made with napkins and would release them from his plane as he flew over the children. The children knew he was coming because he would “wiggle” the plane wings. In such a sad time for the children, he brought so much joy, along with his peers that he recruited to help him pull off this task over and over again.

His simple gesture to the children is now famous and Orem will be able to participate in a special event. On July 3, Gail Halvorsen, affectionately named the “Candy Bomber,” will be speaking and dropping candy at Scera Park (699 S. State Street, Orem). He will have about 1,000 candy bars with individual parachutes to be dropped. Prior to the drop, he will be speaking at 3:30 pm.
