Cherished Moments

This post is sponsored.

I have two young kids and sometimes I feel like the days just drag on with crying, hitting, and my youngest getting into everything he shouldn’t over and over again. Yet even in those times, sometimes, I feel like I just want to hold onto those moments so tight and I don’t want my little ones to ever grow up.

Usually it’s just the small, simple moments that are the most precious. Nobody is doing anything special. But I get to take a step back and look at how precious my children are to me and I just want time to stand still. Luckily for me, I have a camera to capture those special moments so I can remember them forever.

And then, of course, there’s the moments when we are somewhere special and I make everyone stop so I can take a photo of them. Because I never want to forget those special times. For example, earlier this year, we spent time as a family only one hour away from our house in a different city. We rented a condo, swam in the pool, walked around downtown, went on small “hikes,” and ate on the balcony for almost every meal. It really wasn’t a big deal and doesn’t sound like much to others, but for me, it was time with just our little family, so that meant the world to me.

Do you ever find yourself looking at your child and wishing you could just stop time? You are not alone! The folks at Gymboree want you to join them in celebrating and sharing cherished moments in childhood. Gymboree has created an amazing new video to help kick off this campaign and I am thrilled to share it with you. This video is truly touching and must be watched by all parents. So watch and enjoy, then share your favorite cherished childhood moments in the comments! Be sure to use the hashtag #cherishchildhood when commenting or if you share this video with friends! Without further ado, I present to you “Today we’ve got to play!” sponsored by Gymboree:

Cowabunga Bay

I have two young kids so the thought of taking them to a water park with huge slides (that we saw from the freeway) didn’t really seem ideal, until I heard that Cowabunga Bay is a perfect place for those with little kids.

We had planned to go the last week of August but as you might remember, it was really rainy and stormy that week so it got put off until the weekend after Labor Day, and do you know what happened that Saturday? The morning was beautiful and very warm. We had things to do that morning so after some naps, we got our swimsuits on, bags packed, and headed up to Draper to go enjoy some time in the sun. But do you remember that Saturday late afternoon/evening? There was a huge storm! We couldn’t even make the drive from Orem up to Draper before we were hit with lots of wind and rain, so we didn’t go into the water.

I did, however, do some observing, and here were some things I really enjoyed about Cowabunga Bay, from a viewer’s perspective:

  • There was a lazy river where you can just grab an inner tube that’s already out and not being used and float around
  • There was a whole little kids’ section that is in a corner so that you can easily watch the kids and make sure they don’t run off
  • The slides were absolutely huge and the kids said they were fun to go down
  • There is a enormous bucket of water that spills water onto unsuspecting victims around the slides area which soaked my one side – I was a victim 🙂
  • In general, the water park was much larger than I expected with all sorts of interesting things to do

Unfortunately for us, Cowabunga Bay is only open this upcoming weekend, September 14-15, 2013, before they close for the winter. I’m planning to go on Saturday. Let’s all hope for good weather.

Fundraiser for Brylee, September 13-15

0

In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, September 13 – 15, 2013, Cardio Barre Quarry Bend will be donating 50% of all proceeds to a little girl in need.

Brylee (Bree) is a vivacious three year old. She has an older brother and a younger sister. On March 6, 2013, she was diagnosed with a tumor on her brain stem called a DIPG. On August 21, 2013, an MRI showed tumor progression and her doctors said she will most likely not make it to Christmas. We have put together a bucket list for her with the hopes that she will enjoy and look forward to her remaining time with us. The bucket list is as follows: feed the elephants, go sledding, ride the polar express, go to the circus, go to Yellowstone, go to Thanksgiving Point, go to Disney on Ice, put her hand print in our driveway, prom/princess ball, and have an Alice in Wonderland tea party.

Cardio Barre Quarry Bend has created an event page for their fundraiser.

On a personal note, I have a three-year old. She is energetic, bossy, emotional, and very much alive. I have read through the blog for Brylee, and I can’t imagine being her parent or being in their situation. My heart hurts for the family and in fact, I can’t even think or talk about the story without crying. The bills for her treatments are extremely large and her family (and friends, neighbors, strangers) want to give her the best last months to years of her life that she could possibly have … at three years old. But obviously, we are hoping for the 5% chance that she will survive another 3-4 years and the rare chance of complete survival.

So that is why it is so important to me to encourage you to help how you can and possibly participate in Cardio Barre Quarry Bend’s fundraiser.
