Giveaway: Emergency Preparedness

0

Emergency Preparedness is something that is really stressed in Utah and it is great to have storage, not just for an emergency but for other times as well.  At a time a few months ago when our bank account had very low funds, it was nice to have built up a food storage that we could survive on for a while.

Although, at the same time, for us here in Utah, we are a ticking time bomb waiting for an earthquake so having a food storage supply is a great way to be prepared.

As I am personally building up my food storage supply, I thought it would be a great chance to do a giveaway as well!

A Night on Broadway, Covey Center

0

Utah Valley Moms was given tickets to view this show.  All opinions are 100% our own.

“A Night on Broadway” is a concert extravaganza that is currently showing at the Covey Center. It includes a wide variety of song and dance from the 1900s that show the diversity of Broadway and its performances.

“A Night on Broadway” is great for all ages (ages 8 and up are allowed into the theater) and is perfect for those of you who love listening to music. My favorites were “Music of the Night” from Phantom of the Opera and “Defying Gravity” from Wicked. And when you go, make sure to watch Preston Yates, the man who played the Phantom during BYU’s showing of Phantom of the Opera.

There is still plenty of time to catch this production. It will run on August 29, 30, September 5, 6, 12, and 13 at 7:30 pm at the Covey Center.

Mountain Mike’s Pizza – All You Can Eat Pizza & Salad

0

Utah Valley Moms received free meals in exchange for this post.  All opinions are 100% our own.

Utah Valley Moms had the great opportunity to visit Mountain Mike’s Pizza, an all you can eat pizza and salad bar.  Mountain Mike’s is located at 3785 W South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan.

Brittany had the chance to visit and try the food at Mountian Mike’s and here is what she said:

So we really REALLY liked it. It wasn’t like any other pizza buffet
where you go and the pizza is made in such a big quantity that the
taste suffers. When I sat down I said it was really good and Steve
said, “Really good for all-you-can-eat pizza?” and I’d say it’s pretty
good for any quality restaurant pizza. They had lots of different
varieties (don’t worry – for research purposes only, we did make sure
to try every single one… 5 or 6 or 89 times). They had some thin
crust and deep, deep dish (this one was my favorite) and all of them
used what seemed to be really fresh, whole ingredients. (You know
sometimes you go to all-you-can-eat pizza places like Pizza Pie Cafe
and the pizza tastes like it came out of a box!)

They also had a salad bar, which is always my favorite thing in the
world. All of the salad bar toppings were fresh and kept on ice and
the salad bar was clean. Sometimes you go and everything looks kind of
iffy because you can tell 900 hands have been all up inside of it. But
whoever was in charge of salad bar duty really was on top of it. The
employees didn’t leave us at our table with a million pizza plates
stacking up, there was someone cleaning up plates like every 10
seconds which was pretty awesome.

Overall, it exceeded our expectations for sure and next time we’re
having a hankering for pizza and salad (which let’s face it, is every
day of my life since I can eat pizza 24/7 and never get sick of it),
we’ll make the drive to South Jordan to go there. It really was that
good. I thought they were pretty new and told Steve on the way home
that I was sure they weren’t going to last very long if they kept
giving away really good pizza for an awesome deal. (I sound like a
commercial right? I don’t know how else to put that.) Because every
other place you go to that has cheap pizza, the pizza is garbage.
Anyway, Steve had been talking to the owner before we sat down and
apparently they’ve been at that location seven years. So I don’t know
how they’re staying in business with good pizza for cheap, but I’m
willing to support. 🙂

Want to try it out for yourself?  Visit their South Jordan location from Monday through Saturday, 11 am – 2 pm or Monday & Wednesday from 5 – 8 pm for their all you can eat buffet.  Mountain Mike’s normal hours are:

Monday-Friday 10 am – 10 pm
Saturday 11 am – 10 pm
Sunday 11 am – 9 pm

Swiss Days 2014

0

The Midway Swiss Days will be held at the Town Square on August 29-30, 2014.  Although this is Midway and not Utah Valley, it is a short drive up the Provo Canyon and a lot of fun, especially if you love that small-town feel.

Entertainment will be held inside and outside throughout Friday and Saturday and includes free admission.  Don’t miss the parade at 10 am in historic downtown Midway.

Lowe’s Build and Grow Binoculars, 9/13

0

Register for the Lowe’s Build and Grow clinic held on September 13 at 10 am.  This time around the kids will have a chance to make binoculars!

We’ve been asked how to know when to register for the clinics since they fill up so fast and not everyone sees our posts about these clinics.  We talked to Lowe’s and they said to check back the Monday after the last clinic and make sure you are registered!  So if you miss our notification on Facebook and/or here, make sure to check back on Mondays after Lowe’s just finished a Build and Grow clinic.

Review & Kickstarter: Pictivities

0

I’m always looking for more ways to interact with my children.  I am the kind of mom that is really good at taking care of the kids by providing food, events to attend, errands to run, and reading.  My husband is the interactive one who can play any make believe scenario out with the children without even hesitating to think of what might happen next or who can wrestle and wear out the kids in a matter of minutes.  That’s why I’m so excited about this book, Pictivities.  It gives parents and caregivers the opportunity to read with children and be interactive with them.

On each page there is a picture button that shows an object, animal, or person. Each image is also linked to an action. You prompt your child to touch the button and then you both say and do the action together.

It’s also great for building up working memories as the buttons get repeated so the children can press the button and redo some of the actions.

Kickstarter Campaign:

Meg and Corbin Frost, the creators of this book, need your help.  Here’s what they have to say:

All the words and pictures for the first Pictivities book are DONE. That means there’s no waiting around while we finish our work! As soon as the Kickstarter campaign is over, if we’ve met our fundraising goal, the book will go straight into production and you will have the books before Christmas.

The money from the campaign will go exclusively toward financing the first print run of the book and toward getting the books and rewards to you!

If we can finance the first print run, we’ve got several other Pictivities books in the pipeline!

So please head to their campaign for Pictivities and help them out!
