Doll House Haunt 2016 + Discount

Doll House Haunt

A short while ago, in the small town of Frisco, a widowed toy maker built a large dollhouse for his two young daughters, hoping it might assuage the girls’ grief of losing their mother. When the girls got sick, he filled it with more toys, and when they died, he filled it with even more in their memory. When strange things began happening in the house, the distraught father believed it was his daughters’ lingering spirits, and stayed behind to fill it with even more dolls, earning him the name “The Doll Keeper” from the other villagers. But as it turned out, the spirits weren’t those of his daughters—and soon enough, the toy maker became the toy for something sinister.

At the Doll House Haunt, visitors can enter the haunted dollhouse to witness the terrible spirits—and confront the Doll Keeper—for themselves. If you’d like to tour the dollhouse and explore its mysteries in peace, visit from noon to 4 p.m., when the spirits take a break.

Looking for spooky but not-too-scary family fun?

Come on out every Saturday in October from noon to 4:00 pm, featuring:

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Out of this World Review

0

We had the opportunity to attend Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Out of this World on opening night and let me tell you, it truly was out of this world!

The focus was on exploring this crazy universe and the things they saw. I was so impressed with the acrobats/gymnasts and all of the talent.

It was half ice so there was a lot of ice skating which was incredible. There were even women on stilts on ice skates which was nerve wrecking!

We’ve been going to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus for a few years now and there are stunts that I’ve never seen. It was exciting. I was one of those annoying people in the audience commenting about how it was too dangerous. I guess that’s what motherhood did to me.

Humble Bugs for the Whole Family

2
Humble Bugs Kit, a family-friendly box

This is a sponsored post. Please refer to our disclosure statement.

We recently received a Humble Bugs box for the family. Humble Bugs is a subscription-based kit. Bi-monthly, a new kit will arrive and it will focus on a different character trait.

The boxes are designed for kids ages 6-11 years old but they include activities and object lessons that can be adapted for kids as young as 3 years old up to teenaged years.

I love spending time with my family and we get out a lot because of me but half my family are introverts who like to be at home. Because of that, I struggle to come up with ideas to keep the whole family entertained, especially while at home. I can drag them all over the city and keep myself and half my family happy all day doing that but when it comes to the days where we stay home and I need to keep the family entertained inside our property, I have a really hard time.

Thank goodness for Humble Bugs. When we received our box, I was very pleasantly surprised that there was so much to the kit. There was a parent’s guide, kid’s guide, movie, activity, craft, and even awards (my kids love awards). My kids couldn’t wait to open the box and get started.

This Humble Bugs box was so fun. After just finishing watching the Olympics, the box was filled with information on the Olympics and making goals which was great for our family. We started by reading some of the information and talking about the Olympics and setting goals. Then we made goals and did the craft to go along with it. Next was talking about dreams. My 4-year old looked at the dream catcher example and then created his which ended up looking nothing like what he wanted it to but he loved it and was so proud of it. It immediately went in his room to catch his dreams and to remember his goals.

The best part about the box for our family was the family games. We love playing games together as a family and we had a blast. We also love movies and it had a family-friendly movie, “Jumping For Joy,” which was nice for a lazy evening.

Humble Bugs Kit, a family-friendly box

The thing that I loved most about the box as a whole is that it was so family-friendly. Not only were we learning really good values, we were working on something together as a family. It was a good activity to fill our in-home day. Plus it came complete with everything we needed for the crafts and activities which was great!

Order your Humble Bugs Kit here.

The prices for a Humble Bugs subscription is: $35 for a kit every other month (billed every other month) or a 6-month subscription for $33 per kit (you save $6 and receive 3 kits) and an annual subscription for $30 per kit (receive 6 kits).

Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic Championship Review 2016

0
Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic
This is a sponsored post. Please refer to our disclosure statement.

If there’s one single thing that I could mention that I love so much about Labor Day weekend, it would be that I love being up in the mountains in the fresh air.

This Labor Day weekend, we spent the weekend up in Midway with the Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic and stayed at the Zermatt, the official lodge of the Classic.

We had gone last year but I was so sick that I had a hard time enjoying the weekend at all. In fact, I had so much medicine in me that I hardly remember anything about the weekend. This year, however, I made sure we all stayed healthy so we could enjoy the weekend and we had a blast.

The Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic is a 4-day event at Soldier Hollow over Labor Day weekend. It is a very family-friendly event with lots to do and see. We only went for one day but I could have easily gone for two days and enjoyed every minute of it. The Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic has sheep herding by the sheepdogs which is a blast to watch. Every dog is different and performs differently on the course. For the first 3 days, there is one course that every dog must take the sheep through. On the Championship day, the course changes slightly and is even more intense to watch. You can bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the sport that way, or you can find a seat on the bleachers that are provided.

via Sharon Hatch

My kids’ favorite part is watching the Splash Dogs. We have yet to see an actual competition but there are dogs that go through the entire time and practice jumping off the ledge into a pool. The kids get a hoot out of watching the dogs leap into the air and splash into the pool. We could easily spend a few hours just watching the Splash Dogs perform.

Via Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship

This year we actually looked at the schedule and tried to hit all of the shows and exhibits. We saw birds, native animals that we usually don’t see up close (like skunks), the flying dogs (dogs doing tricks and catching frisbees), and a few other attractions. My kids loved this little wooden box (like a sand box) that they could climb into and pet an enormous rabbit and tortoise. Any chance my kids could get, they were sticking their hands through gates and fences trying to pet any animal that was on display, including some sheep. We also played the Corn Hole game that was set up for a long time.

My favorite part, as with almost every event, was the atmosphere. Not only is it gorgeous at Soldier Hollow, but I love feeding off everyone’s excitement and happiness. People were there with families and friends, enjoying the food, enjoying the animals, and most of all, enjoying the event.

The Zermatt Resort was a nice way to end our day at the Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic. It is about 5-10 minutes away, not far at all, and is one of our favorite places to stay that isn’t too far away from home. The kids love the carousel and the goats that are in the back of the property. We chased a marmot down a stream for a while and found out that the goats liked the apples that we found on the ground of the property. They also have tennis courts, a life-sized chess/checkers game, mini golf, and a lot of outdoor things you can rent to enjoy your time there. The indoor/outdoor pool is great (if the kids are little and not great swimmers, remember to take some floaties to keep them up in the water since the indoor pool is 3.5-5 feet deep) and the wellness center is perfect for working out in.

So right now, mark the  Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic on your calendar for next year. It’s an event we look forward to each year and I’d hate for you to miss out on it.
