Ideal Shape Review + Discount

0

Utah Valley Moms was given these products in exchange for a review. All opinions are ours.

Ideal Shape is a local (Lindon) company that is helping curb hunger and helping people get to their ideal shape.  I tried the shake and the health bars.

If you’ve been following some of our blogs (or know me), you might know and remember that I started getting sick last September and was sick for over three months.  I just kept getting hit with all of the sicknesses going around.  And at some point I seemed to have fractured a rib and then about a week after getting over that, I injured my back.  Least to say, it was miserable.  Plus I have always been one for exercise so the fact that I was basically unable to exercise much for months was completely depressing.

I gained about 15 pounds (which is a lot when you’re supposed to be as small as I am, a 5’0 little Asian lady) and found myself constantly eating over about a six-month time span.  I would eat my six smaller meals but then I would also eat between those meals and I would definitely make myself another small dinner after the kids went to bed.  See?  I was out of control.

I finally decided this all had to stop so I started waking up really early again to get work done plus exercising done before the kids got out of bed.  But the hardest part of all was the addiction to food.  After eating unhealthy for a few months, my body constantly craved the extra calories and if wasn’t the calories, it was simply the act of eating.  I wanted something to be going into my belly and the easiest thing to get in there was usually high fat, high calorie foods.

One thing that I have enjoyed about the Ideal Shape products is that they replace all of the extra eating with something a bit healthier and a lot more filling.  When I got the Ideal Shape bars, I started eating about 1/4 to 1/2 of a bar each night instead of my bowls of ice cream, Cheetos, and any other fattening foods I could get my hands on.  These bars aren’t just like yummy Granola Bars.  The Ideal Shape bars are packed with nutrients and do an excellent job of curbing my hunger so that after a few bites of the bars, I feel satisfied.  My brain still tells me that I’m missing out on that bowl of ice cream but my body tells me that I don’t need it.

The meal replacement shakes are effective as well, however, I don’t like the taste of it as much as I like the bars.  It blocks hunger for at least three hours, is gluten free, and contains good nutrients as well.

Here are some tips when using Ideal Shape products:

-We suggest drinking a full glass of water after each shake. This helps to activate the hunger blocker.
-Any time you cut back your calorie intake it will take a couple of days for your body to adjust. (Complaints of still feeling hungry) Also, making it into a smoothie gives it a little more substance, which some people may need.
-Be sure they are eating 5 times a day. We suggest 3 healthy snacks. The Ideal bar works great for this.
-Some bodies are not use to the amount of fiber and may need to start out with ½ a scoop for a week then move up to a full scoop
-Add liquid first then shake mix into shaker bottle for best results.
-Ideal bars are a nutritious snack for any age.

While I cannot condone the use of the Ideal Shape products all the time, nor can I condone the use of them as a meal replacement, I can tell you that they work and that if you’re an overeater or snack addict like I was, these may be a good way for you to help curb your hunger and get your meal-eating back on the right track.

Central Park Pet Retreat Review, Salt Lake City

2

I had the great opportunity to go visit the Central Park Pet Retreat in Salt Lake City, located at 55 Miller Avenue.  It has a great location, located just off of 3300 South’s I-15 on and off ramp.  If you’re from Utah Valley like I am, it’s in a great place to stop by on the way to Salt Lake, on the way to the airport, or on the way to a Northern vacation!

My family recently adopted a dog from the North Utah Valley Animal Shelter and one of my concerns is leaving our Millie at the house when we go up to Salt Lake all day or when we eventually go on vacation.  I have seen how boarding works at some veterinarian offices and a couple of other boarding locations but have never been satisfied. And I can honestly say, Central Park Pet Retreat is unlike any place I have seen.

Our little Millie.

My favorite part about Central Park Pet Retreat is that the animals are allowed a lot of socialization time, as well as a lot of play time outside of their sleeping quarters.  When I went to visit, the small dogs were in their room playing on the benches and barking at us while the larger dogs were all outside playing on the grass with each other.  And this isn’t abnormal!  Play time is what your animal gets every single day!

While I was waiting in the waiting area at Central Park Pet Retreat, a man and woman came in with their little dog.  They were headed off on vacation and were worried about their little dog.  Jackie, the owner and receptionist at the time, let the couple have all the time they wanted and needed to spend with their dog before they left, as well as kindly and patiently answered all of their questions.  I was most impressed though that Jackie informed them that they could call Central Park Pet Retreat at any time to see how their dog was doing and they would even send pictures of their little one!

I like that Central Park Pet Retreat takes care of your animals just like you would take care of them.  In fact, they treat your animals like they would children.  The part that reminded me most of them treating animals like children is that the pets get to wander around and interact with other people and animals (assuming that they do well with other animals) and only go to their kennels or little suites when it’s eating and sleeping time (including nap/quiet time in the afternoon).  This means that your animal gets the food that you took for them and gets plenty of time to rest without being over exhausted.  Central Park Pet Retreat also makes sure your dog stays in its kennel or suite for about an hour after eating to make sure their stomach and body is digesting well and then lets the dogs out to play again.  Over exertion right after eating can cause a twisted stomach in dogs and as you can probably guess, is really bad for them.

Although the backyard/playground area is still being worked on (and should be done in the next couple of weeks), we got to view the plans for the outdoor areas and it looks amazing.  It will be complete with grass and a splash pad!  A splash pad!  I am so excited to be able to take my dog there for day care as well as boarding while we’re on vacation and know that my dog will not only get plenty of socialization while I’m gone, but she’ll also get to play in the water!  For now, there is a large fenced-in grass area for the dogs to enjoy which is plenty for the dogs.

Photo from Facebook.

The inside of the building is large.  My favorite parts of the inside of the building are the murals.  Jackie hired a tag artist to do the painting inside and it looks incredible!  I imagined white walls and how dull and boring it would look and it probably would be hard to want to leave my dog there but with so much color on the walls … it just looks so fun!  The main indoor area is “Central Park.”  It has a television (to help the animals feel at home) and lots of play room.

Photo from Facebook

Daycare:  Central Park Pet Retreat offers daycare Monday through Saturday from 7 am to 7 pm.  As of right now for daycare, you may drop off your dog or cat any time between 7-7 and can pick them up, no appointment necessary.  Which means that those random mornings I wake up and decide to pack up the family and spend the day up in Salt Lake, I can drop off Millie (our dog) at Central Park Pet Retreat and pick her up later in the day so she can enjoy her day while we’re enjoying ours.

Boarding:  Central Park Pet Retreat also offers boarding for your dog or cat.  There are lots of decent places to take your animals while you’re on vacation (or having surgery or wherever else you may be going) but I would strongly suggest looking into Central Park Pet Retreat.  Your animal will not be cooped up most of the day in a kennel being bored and depressed with the sounds of other dogs constantly barking.  Instead, your animal will have plenty of time with lots of space to roam, just as if he or she was at home and for a very good price!

Discount Special:  I found on their website that for first time customers, buy one day of daycare or boarding and get one free!

Find more photos of Central Park Pet Retreat on their website.  Central Park Pet Retreat also offers dog walking and washing!

Utah Valley Moms was offered services from Central Park Pet Retreat in exchange for this post, however, all opinions are our own.

Giveaway- Agnes & Dora

33

Agnes & Dora provided UVM with leggings in exchange for our honest opinion.

Agnes & Dora is a company that sells adult leggings, harem pants, maxi skirts and children leggings. They have some products online, but they also sell their products through at home parties. Legging Parties! How fun right?

We had the opportunity to review some of Agnes & Dora’s leggings. When I received the leggings, my immediate thought was how incredibly SOFT they were. I received a pair of navy fleece leggings for me and some cute patterned leggings for my little girl.  The comfort level of my fleece leggings can’t be matched. I would wear them all the time if I could. I was worried since they are one size fits all if they would really fit well. I am fairly tall and have trouble finding clothes that fit my length, but they fit great.  They are incredibly comfortable and warm.  My daughter’s leggings have an adorable pattern and are silky soft.  She absolutely loves wearing them.  They both seem like very good quality and the comfort level of both of them is amazing.

Upcycling and Trash Hacking

Upcycling and Trash Hacking

Author: Joe Wallis

We live in a consumer culture where commodities are relatively inexpensive and usually easy to replace. As many have lamented, gone are the days of taking your TV to the local fix-it shop to add a few years to its lifespan. Many electronics are just too small and/or complex to repair for a reasonable cost, especially when you can usually get the latest and greatest without spending much more.

Of course, all of this means a lot of stuff gets thrown away. Landfills get filled, large islands of floating plastic form in the Pacific Ocean, and resources get more and more expensive over time. Of course, recycling isn’t a new concept. The Reduce, Reuse and Recycle campaign has been around for decades now, and “going green” is more in vogue than ever. But to really make a difference, people need to make it an even bigger part of their life.

What is upcycling?

Recycling is really broken into two categories. The one we usually think of is termed downcycling. That’s where you put the old materials in a bin and it’s taken off to a plant where it is broken down into different parts. These can then be processed into usable raw materials for making new products. E-cycling is a subset focused on recycling electronic waste.

The other side of recycling is, you guessed it, upcycling. Upcycling is taking a product that has completed its usefulness as it was designed and finding a new use for it. For example, the TV we had when I was a kid was housed in a very large cabinet. As mentioned above, when it broke down it was cheaper to just replace it. However, we were able to remove the TV and it’s electronics from the cabinet, which we then used to store our VHS collection.

Upcycling, sometimes called trash hacking, has gained a lot more popularity in the past few years as the maker movement has grown. Instructables, LifeHacker, and other DIY community sites have helped push the boundaries and brought new ideas to people who may have never considered them. Once you start doing these kind of projects, you feel empowered, and before long many things you would never have taken a second glance at become obvious for their useful second life.

The best way to come up with ideas is to just jump in. Check out some simple projects and find something to get you started. Obviously you’ll have to pick something you have available, but also make sure you do something that you will actually find useful. Nothing turns you away from the whole concept like feeling like you wasted your time. Once you start thinking about the projects you find elsewhere, you’ll start to find new ideas popping up around you.

But, even if the inspiration never strikes, there are plenty of ideas out there to keep anyone busy. Here are a few common and inexpensive examples:

  • Use toilet paper tubes to store electronics cables. Not much of a project, but very effective.
  • Turn an old grill/wash tub/tire etc. into a planter. On a smaller scale, mason jars can make great pots. This works with just about anything you can fill with dirt, just pick something that fits your style.
  • Put a string of lights in a glass bottle or jar. Makes a great centerpiece or lamp. You can even hang them.
  • An old classic: Use old jeans or other clothes to make a quilt.
  • Tin cans make great pencil or kitchen utensil holders. Paint them to match your color scheme.

Denim Quilt Texture

One potential problem is running out of projects that you actually need. You don’t want to clutter up your house or garage with old projects. There are a couple of ways to keep creating without becoming a hoarder. Most obviously, just pace yourself. Find things that will actually be useful. Once you run out of those kind of projects, start making things as gifts. Better yet, start an online shop on Etsy or a similar site and sell your creations. What could be better than recycling, exercising your creativity, and earning some extra cash at the same time?

The time may even come when you can start seeking out materials. You may not want to get into dumpster diving, but you can often find things at a thrift store that can be used to make something much better, and sell it for more than the original cost. You might also contact a local waste management company and see if they will let you help them with their recycling efforts. Getting involved in the upcycling movement may just open your eyes to a growing community of people who love to make new things, and preserve the old things that matter.
