“The Stray” Review

The Stray movie review
This is a sponsored post. Please refer to our disclosure statement.

“The Stray” came to theaters on October 6 and is a heart-warming story about a family and a dog that came into their lives to change their lives forever.

I don’t want to give the story away but “The Stray” tells the true story of how a stray dog, “Pluto,” comes out of nowhere and impacts the Davis family, who are struggling in many ways. In just a short time, Pluto the “wonderdog” manages to save a toddler, bring comfort and companionship to a hurting 9-year-old boy, help restore a marriage, and repair a broken father-son relationship. Pluto is not only a guard dog – he’s a guardian angel. Sometimes help comes from the most unlikely places. Sometimes our prayers get answered in strange ways. Sometimes one dog can change everything. Written and directed by Mitch Davis, distributed by Purdie Distribution.

The thing I like about this movie is that it shows how we can at times think that we’re doing the right thing for ourselves and our family. We work hard because we think that is exactly what others want and need from us but sometimes it’s just not true. Sometimes an outside force, like a dog, comes into our lives to make us realize what is really important and that perhaps we need change in our lives.

If you are expecting an action-packed movie, this is not the movie for you. It is a based on a true story of a real family. This movie is rated PG and is definitely appropriate for children. We took our 5-year old son to see it and it is now one of his favorite movies.

It’s a dog movie but it’s so much more than that. Visit your local theater to see this family-friendly movie!

Marvel Universe LIVE! Review 2017 + Tips for Attending

Tips for Marvel Universe LIVE
This is a sponsored post. Please refer to our disclosure statement.

Super hero action, thrills and drama will soar, smash and burst into the Maverik Center on September 28 – October 1st with Marvel Universe LIVE! Age of HeroesThe iconic Marvel Super Heroes Spider-Man and The Avengers are joined by the Guardians of the Galaxy, including Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Rocket and Drax, in a legendary battle to defend the universe from evil.

We had the opportunity to see the show last night and my kids loved it! We saw one show last year and all agreed that we enjoyed this performance more than last year. The Guardians of the Galaxy characters added quite a bit of humor to the show. Not that I want to give away the show but my favorite part was at the end where the Avengers called for “Avengers Assemble!” Then we heard from the Guardians of the Galaxy, “Guardians Gather!” We all just sat there and the characters admitted themselves that they needed to work on that part.

Without giving it all away, the things that made this story and show so great for kids was because it included the following:  fire, fireworks, motorcycles, stunts, and their favorite superheroes and Guardians of the Galaxy characters. The story was fine. The imagery was great. And the kids really did love watching everyone at battle and the good guys winning in the end. It was so up close and personal that at times it felt like we were in the story ourselves.

If you’re going to go see the show, which you should and there are still tickets available, here’s a few things to keep in mind:

  • When you arrive, there will be parking fees. The Maverik Center and across the street parking was $10. We parked at the TRAX station parking just north east of the Maverik Center for free and walked over. Another great option is to take TRAX and it’s a short walk to the show.
  • No food or drink allowed. This is pretty standard but I took a small purse with an unopened water bottle and had to dump it before walking in. But I still took in the empty water bottle and filled it up once inside.
  • Toys and food are plentiful. Set expectations with your children before going. How much money will you spend there? What will you buy them? For my children, they know that we will not be purchasing any of the items (because we’re cheap like that) so they aren’t too sad when we don’t buy them anything. Another alternative would be to buy some of the toys beforehand and take them in with you so the kids still have light up toys.

Costa Vida Review + Giveaway

Costa Vida Utah
This is a sponsored post. Please refer to our disclosure statement.

I haven’t had much Costa Vida until recently and now I’m here to tell you that if you haven’t tried it, you may be missing out.

Following a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Costa Vida founders JD and Sarah Gardner were inspired with a vision. While the surf lapped at their feet and they enjoyed the delicious freshly made local cuisine, they brainstormed how they could bring this vibrant lifestyle and incredible cuisine home with them. The result was the first Costa Vida location in Layton, Utah.

Being true to the cuisine of coastal Mexico, Costa Vida food is made fresh in each restaurant’s kitchen. Each tortilla is hand crafted daily and served hot, ensuring that no customer will ever have to eat a factory-made tortilla pulled from a bag. The sweet pork and shredded beef are perfectly seasoned and slow-cooked for several hours to create the signature intense aroma and flavors of Costa Vida.

Costa Vida Utah
This employee is Thomas. If you happen to run into him, he’s one of my favorites. Ask him to make it “damn good” and he will make an amazing plate.

I was given a tour of their kitchen and I can personally say that chefs were hard at work preparing all of the food by hand in the kitchen. The tortillas are made fresh in front of customers (a kid favorite) and I watched as meat and beans were checked and prepped and even the cakes were being made (with real eggs!). I am also always impressed with their employees. They are always kind and helpful.

Costa Vida Utah

The only thing I have ever ordered from Costa Vida has been a burrito, almost always filled with pork. However, more recently I have been converted into trying new things and it was fantastic! I feel like I’ve really been missing out. Two of my new favorite dishes are the shrimp tacos and the steak enchilada with onions and green peppers with a corn tortilla. I had no idea they were so good!

Costa Vida Utah
Raspberry Chicken Salad

Costa Vida offers a variety of foods. Then you get to choose your meat and customize your meal to get it any way you want it. I highly recommend trying something out of your comfort zone. You might end up with a new favorite! Costa Vida Menu

Costa Vida also offers desserts:  Tres Leches, Key Lime Pie, and Caramel Flan. Even though I don’t like caramel, I actually really love flan and Costa Vida has a really delicious flan!
