Giveaway: Silver Apple Boutique

164

Silver Apple Boutique was started by Jody. It is based out of Eagle Mountain but it is an online store. For those of you who know Eagle Mountain well, there’s not much out there so being able to shop without traveling to American Fork was one reason why Jody began Silver Apple Boutique.

Jody also mentioned a couple of other reasons why she began her business. One, because women are busy these days and online is so much easier when you have children and tow, because her husband is in the Utah National Guard and as he is gone often for trainings and deployments, she could still be home to be a mother to her three girls.

I’ve spent some time browsing her online boutique and found some of my favorite items:

Love these infinity scarves I love leggings I have a couple of fleece leggings and trust me, these things are amazing. They are so warm and comfy – I wear them as often as possible.

Make sure to follow Silver Apple Boutique on Facebook as there are giveaways and deals that you’ll only hear about by following Silver Apple!

Craftsy makes me feel like I could possibly be crafty.  Here is some info about Craftsy to determine whether these classes might be something that could help you improve your crafting skills!

What is Craftsy?
Craftsy is a worldwide craft community offering online classes. It also has a patterns marketplace where independent designers can sell their patterns; a supplies shop with great deals on yarn, fabric, and class kits; and a projects section where members share pictures of their latest craft successes. With over two million members and counting, Craftsy has something for just about everyone, in categories ranging from quilting, sewing, knitting, painting, photography, cooking, and more.

Behind the Scenes: The Making of a Craftsy Class
Before filming even begins, hours and hours are spent determining what content will be covered in each class, and how to best teach specific techniques to the camera. Instructors work with an instructional designer to create an in-depth outline of each lesson, and decide how to best prepare props or “step-outs” that show what your project should like at different steps. Instead of a scripted class, instructors follow their outlines on camera to create an authentic and engaging teaching experience.

Most Craftsy classes are filmed in one of five Craftsy studios in Denver, CO, assuring that every part of the production process goes off without a hitch. They fly in instructors from all over the world to spend several days filming, then spend several weeks turning hours of footage into a two to three hour class experience that has been watched, rewatched, and reviewed by industry experts. The final result is an HD-quality video that takes you in-depth into specific topics in any given craft category- from cooking and fine art to sewing and knitting.

What IS the Craftsy experience?
Craftsy classes are designed to have all the benefits of an in-person class, with none of the drawbacks. Available online and on-demand, you always have world-class instructors at the tip of your fingers. You can retake the class as many times as you want, and the 30-second repeat feature allows you to watch the same section over and over again until you get every technique just right.

Watching a Craftsy class is like having a first-row seat with some of the best instructors in the world. Even better, classes have a 100% money-back guarantee.

Try online learning today with a free mini-class from Craftsy! Choose from 23 Free Craftsy Classes ranging from drawing and painting to sewing and quilting, from knitting to cake decorating and more.

DIY: Pillow Covers

1

I have this great friend, Missy, who is a genius when it comes to do-it-yourself things and her home is so cute. I’ll show you some of her home decor in the next few weeks but I first want to show you these cute pillows that she covered.

DIY Pillow Covers

Missy took some ugly pillows and decided to cover them. She went to Target and found some placemats that she liked, took them home and sewed them on. And now look:

Missy found these placemats at a great price and they were the perfect size for her pillows. It was a much cheaper alternative to buying a large amount of fabric, especially because the placemats just the right size.  She was also able to find such a cute pattern that fits her home perfectly!

Super easy, right?

Santa Will Write Review & Discount

1

As Christmas time is approaching I have been asking my daughter what she would like Santa to bring her.  Any time she would think of something she might like she would tell me she wanted it for her birthday not Christmas.  She is terrified of Santa.   She doesn’t even want him to bring her anything for Christmas because she doesn’t want anything to do with him.  I finally convinced her that Santa will just leave her present under the tree; she doesn’t even have to see him.  This helped a little but she is still pretty nervous about him.

Santa Letter, Santa Will Write

That’s why I was pretty excited to try out http://santawillwrite.com/.  They send you a letter written by Santa telling your son/daughter that they have been good and they should keep being good.  I thought it might help relieve some of my daughter’s fears of Santa. After going online and filling out some information about my daughter I ordered her package.  I had to tell them a little about what my daughter wanted this year for Christmas and how she had been good so that each letter is personalized for the child.  Although most of the packages will come right after Thanksgiving ours came within just a few days.  My daughter was so excited to open it.  After we read it to her she got so excited.  It came with some stickers (which she loves), Christmas tattoos, a letter from Santa and Rudolph, and a certificate for being on the nice list.  She loves getting mail and I think getting personal mail from Santa that had information about her helped her be not quite as scared of him.  Although I’m not quite sure she will be willing to sit on Santa’s lap this year at least it helped her to understand he is not some crazy scary guy.

Santa Letter, Santa Will Write

I wish they had put cardboard in the package so that her letters wouldn’t get bent. One of the corners got bent in the mail but overall they arrived in good condition.  But other than that I was happy about the quality of all the products and my daughter loved it which is the most important thing.  The letters were all well written and very cute.

Discount:  To receive 25% off of your package and Santa’s letter, use the code “utahmoms25” until 12/17/13.

Paul Mitchell Salt Lake City Review

0

Last week I had the opportunity to get a haircut from Paul Mitchell the School of Salt Lake City.  After I arrived I only had to wait a few minutes until my stylist came to meet me. Her name was Aubray. She was a very nice sweet girl. I have to admit, my favorite part of haircuts is getting my hair washed.  I love the scalp massage, it is so relaxing.  Aubray definitely did a fantastic job.  The school even promises you will receive a 5-minute scalp massage with every haircut or your haircut is free!  I was a little nervous having my haircut done by someone in training.  My hair sometimes has a hard time styling so I’m usually very particular about who cuts my hair.  Since this is a school, all of the students have to have their teachers check their work at every step of the process.  This usually makes appointments a lot longer than just a normal haircut. My haircut lasted about an hour and a half.  But because there work is constantly checked you don’t have to worry much about them messing up.  Before they do any cutting their teacher has to approve of exactly what they do.  One of the reasons my haircut took a little extra long was because Aubray was having a hard time getting my hair to style exactly the right way. I was very appreciative that she took the time to make sure it was cut right so that I would be able to style it the way I wanted it styled.   For me, how I can really tell if it’s a good haircut is by how easily I can style it the next day.  I was very happy the next day with how well my hair styled.  Although my haircut took a long time I think Aubray did a great job cutting it and I am very pleased with the results.

Paul Mitchell Salt Lake City

Aubray was a stylist in Phase two at Paul Mitchell.  There are two different phases. Phase one and phase two.  Phase one is all of the students studying at Paul Mitchell. Phase two is for a select number of students. After they have earned enough working hours they can take extra tests and apply for phase two. So phase two students have worked really hard to get where they are and they are exceptionally good students. They get to learn and work in more of an environment of an actual salon.  They get to make their haircuts more of their own and make their own decisions.  I was very pleased with my experience with Paul Mitchell and Aubray as my stylist.

Blurb’s Chicken Soup For Your Soul!
It can be really hard buying books for people as gifts. After all, you never know just which books they already have. And then when you do find the right book and give it to them, how do you make it really personal? Put in a book plate? Write an inscription? How do you make the whole thing totally them?

These personalized “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books are one really great way to do it. Not only do you get to choose from five different story themes (from “Christmas Stories” to “Giving thanks”), you can personalize it in ways you just can’t with a conventional book. As the title suggests, these are stories meant to comfort and heal.

Your custom “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book will truly be a book for them because the book is printed with their name on the cover, as the recipient. And it’s truly from you because your name is printed on the cover as the giver. You can even include an inscription inside the book and on the back cover. Even add a photo to the back.

There are other nice options to choose from, like the type of cover you’d like and the type of paper. It takes just about five minutes to make it a truly custom book. And chances are, it’s something they’ll love forever. And a 60-page book starts at just $24.95.

There’s a quick video here: Chicken Soup for the Soul that shows you how to fill in all the info using a simple online tool. The books are all done by Blurb, so you know the quality is going to be great.
