Giveaway & Salina Utah: A Great Place to Visit and Live

31

14 Bloggers, 14 AdventuresThis is LaRea from getinandgo.com, I am pleased to be sharing an adventure from my home in Salina, Utah with the readers at utahvalleymoms.com. Thank you for this opportunity!

Salina Utah. We call it “The Hub.” Why? Because it is right in the center of Utah, or pretty darn close anyway. Salina is a small town of approximately 3,500 people. So what does a town of 3,500 people have to offer you might wonder? Salina is one of those great little communities with friendly people. A little of the old west in a modern setting. Everyone should visit Salina just to find out about all the good things small town living has to offer.

Welcome to Salina City Salina is a beautiful little town with quaint little streets and shops. After exploring all of the streets and shops of Salina you are only 20-50 minutes from some very beautiful scenery.

You can easily drive to Salina in one day from anywhere in Utah. From Utah Valley it is about one and a half hours. From St. George about three. Salina is located at the crossroads of I-70, Hwy 50 and US 89. Here are the top ten things to see and do in and around Salina:

Salina
Salina, Utah

1 – Mom’s Cafe – Mom’s Cafe is a local restaurant that has been featured in several travel magazines including National Geographic. Home style cooking in a turn of the century building. The highlight is the deep fried scone with honey butter. Perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Mom's Cafe2 – Burn’s Saddlery – Burn’s Saddlery was founded in 1876 in Salina and is located on Main Street in Salina. Always a great stopping place to check out all of the different styles of cowboy boots and Western wear.

3 – The Salina Veteran’s Memorial – This newly dedicated monument is located on Highway 89 in remembrance of the veterans from the Salina area. It has been a labor of love by many volunteers in our community.

Veteran's Memorial4 – Miss Mary’s Museum – Located on the corner of 200 South and 100 East. Miss Mary came to Salina after WWI and taught the children in this little old church. It has since become a museum and has hundreds of artifacts about the history of Salina. A song titled “Miss Mary’s Vacation Bible School” was just recently written and released by Tim Gates from country western band Due West.

Miss Mary's Museum Salina Utah5 – Blackhawk Arena – Rodeo events and BMX racing events are held at the Blackhawk Arena weekly in the indoor arena.

Blackhawk Arena Salina Utah6 – National and State Parks – Even though the parks are not right in Salina, Goblin Valley, Capitol Reef, Cathedral Valley, Bryce Canyon and many more are within a short driving distance from Salina.

7 – ATV Riding/Snowmobiling – Right from Salina you can drive your ATV to some of the most beautiful country you will ever see. The Great Western Trail, the Piute Trail, Manti-Lasal Trails and the Gooseberry Trail System are all within just a few miles from Salina. There are over 1000 miles of trails right in Salina’s backyard. In the winter, these trails are groomed for great snowmobiling.

ATV Riding Salina Utah8 – The Old Spanish Trail – If you are driving eastbound on I-70 from Salina, just off the Red Creek exit (highway 72) there is a trail marker kiosk for the Old Spanish Trail. Looking across I-70 toward the north you can see a red circle with human figures. This symbol marked the turn off for the trail system. Click on the picture for a short video about the OST.

Spanish Trail Movie9 – Fish Lake – Fish Lake is located only 45 minutes from Salina. At Fish Lake of course there is fishing, but it is one of the most beautiful places you will ever fish. The lake is surrounded by aspen trees and evergreens. The aspen tree system (Pando) at Fish Lake is the largest organism in the world. There is also a beautiful lodge where you can dine and enjoy an afternoon on the lake.

Morning at Fish Lake10 – El Mexicano Restaurant – Some of the best Mexican food you will ever eat at a reasonable price is located just off the I-70 exit in Salina. Everything is great but the beef chimichanga is a favorite.
