The Best Way to Print Instagram Photos + Free Chatbooks Book

1

I take a few hundred photos a month and most make it to Instagram, usually in a photo collage (you’re welcome, friends).  Instagram had been my way of journaling the last couple of years and luckily, a local Utah Valley company had created a solution for me to print out my hundreds of photos.

Chatbooks is a simple app that can be downloaded and it will upload all of your Instagram photos so you can create 60-photo books. You can even schedule them to print or if you’re like me, schedule to get multiple a month until you’re all caught up.

And what’s more? They are only $6 a month!

4 More Days to Catch Disney On Ice Presents Let’s Celebrate!

0

March 5, 6, 7, and 8 are your last chances to catch Disney On Ice Presents Let’s Celebrate.

Normally this is the post where I’d recap about how amazing it was but unfortunately for us, about an hour before we were to leave for the show, my daughter threw up so despite how much I tried to tell her she was fine and we could still go, I eventually had to be a good mom and we obviously didn’t go.

Utah Valley Moms is a Feld Family Ambassador, and in exchange for UVM’s time and efforts in attending shows and reporting my opinion within this blog, as well as keeping you advised of the latest discount offers, Feld Entertainment has provided UVM with complimentary tickets to Feld shows and opportunities to attend private Feld pre-Show events.

However, if you’re still on the fence about whether to get tickets or not, first there’s a $5 discount on the $20 and $25 level prices by using the code “mom.”  Second, there’s 16 Disney stories with over 50 characters!  I saw some pictures of blogger friends who went last night and it looked like a blast!

Wednesday, March 4:  7 pm
Thursday, March 5: 7 pm
Friday, March 6: 3:30 pm & 7 pm
Saturday, March 7: 11:30 am, 3:30 pm, & 7 pm
Sunday, March 8: 1 pm & 4 pm

Ticket price levels are $20, $25, $40 (VIP), and $52 (Front Row)
Special opening night discount tickets are available for only $15 each (not valid for VIP/Front Row)
Use the code “MOM” for $5 off (level $20 & $25 pricing only)

How I Make the Day About Me with 2 Kids

2
Finding ways to get some me time.

I’ve found that as a mom, some days I would rather just sit around on the couch, watch movies, and eat Cheetos but in the life of a mom, it’s hard to do that.  I have two sweet children (and by sweet, I mean that they seem sweet to everyone else) who stay home most of the day.  But I don’t like to stay home so really we’re just gone most of the day.  On a normal day, I usually don’t even shower until 2 pm.  If I’m lucky, I’ll shower before noon.  If I’m lucky, I’ll sleep in past 6 am.  If I’m lucky, I’ll get in exercise during the day.  And if I’m lucky, I’ll get to actually watch the television show I’ve been saving on Hulu to watch at some point during the day.

But being a mom is hard work.  I feel like I’m cleaning up messes/spills, changing clothes (and kids’ clothes) because of the messes, making food, cleaning up food, making sure homework gets done, making sure errands get run, and fulfilling other responsibilities all day.  When I look back on my day, I feel success because of what I’ve accomplished, but I also can feel slightly depressed when I think about how much the day was focused on everyone else.  For example, as I’m even writing this post, I’ve got two kids cuddled up with me who have been sick all morning while we’re watching a Mickey movie.  I ate a couple of bites for breakfast but haven’t eaten since then.  I’m still in my workout gear which only was used for a few minutes before I was called into the bathroom again for another mess.

Finding ways to get some me time.

To stop that feeling like I didn’t get enough Me Time, I try to make sure I do a few things each day.

1.  I try to wake up before the kids wake up.  Most mornings it’s hard to do but it’s worth it.  I get to read, scroll through social media, and get a few other things done before I have to start my day.  My heart jumps (and not in a good way) every time I think I hear a bedroom door open but if I’ve been able to get a few things done, it’s a lot less stressful when it’s the kids coming down the stairs.

2.  Bathroom time is all about me.  I never lock the door but the kids know that if I’m in the bathroom, I am not to be bothered.  I may be gone 10 minutes while I watch part of the “Ellen Show” on YouTube but I’ll return back out those bathroom doors at some point.  And when I do, then the kids can complain or solicit my help however they see fit.  But until that bathroom door opens, I don’t even want to hear “mom.”  It sounds mean, but some days, it’s just what I need to stay sane.

3.  I like to make sure I get friend time just like I try to make sure my children have time with friends.  I admit that I’ve been that mom that lingered just a little too long to talk to the nice Gap cashier lady just to talk to an adult.  So making sure that I can see my friends every now and then is important.  Even if that just means that I stay and chat a few minutes to my children’s friend’s mom, I do it.

4.  I like to make sure that I take care of the way I look.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love wearing sweats and leggings.  In fact, if I could wear those everyday, all day, I would.  But some times it’s nice to actually do my hair, apply a little makeup, and wear something a little fancier.  Fun fact (“fun,” used loosely), the days I feel the worst about myself are the days I actually wear dresses and skirts.

Let’s take this day for example:

my sisters closet

(I took out my face because although I did my makeup, I had Ptosis really bad that day because of how tired I was.  Ptosis basically means that my eyelid muscle has a hard time holding up my eyelid.  It shows if I’m tired at all.  So the days I am really tired, one eyelid is closed about halfway, or at least that is what it looks like to me.)

Anyway, the face isn’t what matters anyway.  What matters is that I used this cute skirt and shoes from My Sister’s Closet Boutique in Spanish Fork to pull off a day that I really wasn’t loving.  The more I love the way I look, the more I feel better about my day.

5.  At the end of the day, I like to go through my social media, read articles I’ve been wanting to read, watch a television show with or without my husband, and just relax.  I also like to plan out the following day so I’m not hit with too many surprises throughout the following day.  I like to have my Me Time and scheduling time into my day for myself is one of the best ways to make sure I’m taking care of myself.  Not everyday goes well or smoothly, and not even everyday do I get dressed for the day, but as a mother, it’s important to have Airplane Mentality:  You can only take care of someone else if you first take care of yourself.

BYU Museum of Paleontology + Video

0

Brigham Young University has a dinosaur museum, also called the Museum of Paleontology.  It’s not very big and it’s not very attractive from the outside but little children seem to love it!  Plus it’s free so you really can’t beat that.

dinosaur museum
Here’s what the outside looked like on a very cold, rainy day that we visited.

My children’s favorite part was being able to watch some students work in a different room. There are glass windows that allow you to watch them work. It’s not very interesting as you don’t talk to them but kids seem to love watching the students clean fossils and such.

I loved just seeing the skeletons.

This is a great indoor activity for toddlers and older children alike, especially when it’s cold outside.  Just keep in mind it’s small – which might be great for those times you need a filler of time between appointments, errands, or for just a quick outing.

The Museum of Paleontology is located at 1683 N. Canyon Road, Provo and is open from 9 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday. Call for current times.

Here’s a video of the museum.  Note my favorite part at the window where my daughter tries to lift up my son – I thought they both were going to fall.  Luckily, no accidents … this time.

5 Free Things to do with Toddlers in Utah County (Winter)

0

Although my children are a little older now, I still remember that strain of finding free things to do with toddlers in Utah County.  I knew of a lot of places that cost money, but what do you do when you don’t want to spend money?

I want to share with you 5 free things I did with my toddlers during the Winter when I absolutely had no money to spend.  In fact, often I’d bike us there just so I didn’t have to spend money on gasoline.

1.  Go to the local library.  It may seem like an obvious choice, but libraries are so great for children!  Plus almost all libraries offer some sort of story time and many of them offer crafts, music, or some kind of preschool for the slightly older kids.  However, that didn’t stop me from taking my little toddlers.  They may have had no idea what sound “A” made, but they sure knew how to color those coloring pages.

Libraries also hold free events.  We go to a lot of cultural performances, movies, puppet shows, and author greetings.  Make sure to check in with your local library to see what is happening.

Love that cities and libraries provide story time for kids who are home! #utah #utahvalleymoms #thingstodoinutah#utahvalley

2.  Go to the mall.  For me, it is really hard to not spend money when I’m in a mall, but I’ve found that it is possible.  My family has been to the mall a lot for somewhere to just let the toddlers get out energy.  There is a lot of walking involved at the mall which is perfect for a toddler that wants to be moving (and perfect for you if it’s cold outside).  Most malls also include a small little play area.  We have loved those play areas for during the winter when the kids want to slide and run around but I refuse to take them to a park.

It’s also a great place to put a toddler in a stroller and walk around to get them sleepy.

3.  Head to Provo Recreation Center (320 W 500 N, Provo).  There is a free indoor playground for anyone to enjoy.  Go and let your toddler climb and play when it’s just too cold to be outside.  There is even a special area for just toddlers.

4.  Visit a museum.  Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University both have free areas to visit, however, Utah Valley University’s art museum is at University Mall, also called the Woodbury Art Museum.  Brigham Young University has a Museum of Art, Bean Life Museum (animals), Museum of Paleontology, and Museum of Peoples and Cultures.  Each of these museums is free to the public and parking is free at Brigham Young University if you park in guest parking areas.

sneak peak – guess where we were today #utahcounty #utahvalley hint, it opens to the public next week!

A photo posted by Utah Valley Moms (@utahvalleymoms) on

5.  Take a trip to Cabela’s.  Cabela’s is not just a store, it also includes a collection of animals and live fish.  One area, in particular, is great for kids to be able to look at the animals and run around just a little bit.  This area is separate from any shopping that people would do which makes it great for toddlers.  Plus, there is only one entrance – even better for toddlers who love to wander off.
