Monster Jam 2014 Review

0

Monster Jam is in Salt Lake City this weekend and we were able to see the opening show last night! The Monster Jam at EnergySolutions will continue today and tomorrow and it’s not too late to get tickets.

This is our second year in a row going to Monster Jam. Last year we sat up in the balcony area and although it felt a little far away, it was still loud and we could see all of the action pretty well. Plus the big screens showing the event helped as well. This year we sat about four or five rows away from the closest row and it was … messy. I couldn’t believe how much dirt on our bodies we walked away with. However, seeing the big trucks up close was a lot of fun.

Monster trucks, however, are not the only thing you’ll see when you go to Monster Jam. There are also street Jeeps and trucks (that have obviously been souped up) that race as well as motorbikes doing tricks high up in the air. For the motorcycles, the seats high up are definitely the best seats.

Review: Glover Maintenance

0

Most recently I spent some time with two ladies from Glover Maintenance who helped clean my parent-in-law’s house.  Glover Maintenance handles cleaning, plumbing, heating, and landscape and we got to have a sneak peak at their cleaning services!

I’m a bit of a clean freak so when I found out that I’d have the opportunity to have Glover Maintenance’s cleaning crew over to clean, it didn’t see like quite a right fit.  Then I thought of my in-laws and how they seem to work around the clock on their local business and how after I work for one hour, I’m exhausted and don’t want to clean so I thought they may enjoy a little help around the house.

Two wonderful ladies arrived exactly when Glover Maintenance had planned them to (I mean, to the minute exactly) and got started immediately.  Dust whirled around them and they still kept working.  Nothing slowed them down.  I found some very dirty areas and even a couple of spider webs that I wanted to make sure they cleaned, and they got them!  My father-in-law was amazed at how clean the oven and stove were.  There have apparently been stains that have been around for a long time and he was impressed they got them out.  I joked that they just replaced the dishes on the stove, you know, those metal things on some stoves that get so messy and stained so quickly, and he believed me – that’s how clean they were!  (And no, they didn’t actually replaced them.  The ladies worked hard to make sure they were clean.)  I even watched one of the ladies clean the cookie jar!  The cookie jar!

If I could have had them a bit longer, I would have wanted them to clean some of the more dusty areas a bit better, like the top of the fan because although I watched them dust it, there was some dust left.  I also wish they had moved some of the furniture.  Since I don’t live there, I’m really not sure what is under the couches in the family room or what’s behind them, but I can almost guarantee you it’s not clean.

However, for the amount of time they had at the house and the amount of cleaning I had left them to do, they did a wonderful job.  I know it hasn’t been that clean in at least five years so they did an absolutely amazing job!

To have Glover Maintenance help you with cleaning, heating, plumbing, and/or landscaping in Utah, call them (801-679-4266) or visit their website to learn more about their services.

The end result – they even cleaned every single picture frame!

3 Ways to Lower Your Electricity Bill – Centurion Homes

1

Alright Utah Valley Moms, this post from Centurion Homes is a little late but don’t blame them!  This is my fault so don’t be mad at them for getting you your home suggestion post late!

This month I have been really interested to know more about how to lower my utilities bill because the last few months it has been so high I’ve cried just a little bit each month we receive the bills.  Here is what Centurion Homes (from Orem) has to say about how to lower your electricity bill in 3 simple steps:

Winter is notorious for providing homeowners and renters alike with a hefty electricity bill. But, various precautions can be taken to reduce how much you’re paying every month. In our combined 30 years of experience, we have found that the following three ways are the best ways to reduce an electricity bill during the winter:

1. Install a programmable thermostat.

thermostat

As simple as it sounds, doing so will actually save you a lot of money in the long run. Installing an effective programmable thermostat allows you to set various temperatures for different times of the day. This way, you won’t be pumping excessive heat into your home when nobody’s home during the day or when you’re sleeping at night. Even just lowering your temperature by 10 degrees at night can save you 10-20% on your electricity bill.

2. Replace your furnace filter.

filter

It is so, so, so important to keep your furnace filter clean. Furnace filters are cheap at any grocery store, and replacing them is a very simple task. To find the size of filter you need, pull your old filter out and see what size it is. Replace it with a new filter–and continue to do this every 1-3 months (depending on what type of filter you buy).

3. Unplug Unused Electronics.

unplug-when-not-in-use

Whether you know it or not, your home is filled with electronics that drain energy–computers, TV’s, phone chargers, toasters and microwaves are some of the main culprits. By unplugging even just some of these items when they’re not being used, you reduce your wasted energy significantly. If you don’t like the idea of having to plug or unplug your devices, try using a power strip that you can easily flip on and off. And if you don’t want to plug and unplug your computer, try putting it into hibernate or sleep mode to still save energy.

Giveaway: ZipBelt

26
utah valley moms

The ZipBelt is a ratchet style belt that adjusts every ¼ inch with 32 different sizing options. This means no holes and a perfect fit every single time.

I originally saw this type of belt on “Shark Tank” and was intrigued when I found out that someone else local to Utah County was selling them. The most interesting fact that I found on ZipBelt is that although the ratchet style belt is just beginning to be popular and more known to us here in the United States, this type of belt may have actually begun in South Korea over 20 years ago! Here is a photo of the ZipBelt’s owner’s grandfather’s belt given to his father about 21 years ago:

ZipBelt has taken this old concept and has made it a bit more modern.

They also have a few different choices as far as belt buckles go. And the best part is that you can even receive a custom design on the belt buckle or even have a custom design on the belt itself!

My husband now owns one and I am such a huge fan of it. My husband loves the ratchet system, but I, being a girl who cares a lot about the way things look more than function, love that it looks nicer without all of the holes. Plus, if it’s a little too large, you can always cut off part of the belt to adjust it to just the right size. This way, the user always gets the best fit. The ratchet system is just ingenious and although South Korea has had it for many years, I am excited for the United States to finally have this popular concept!

Hint, this might make a great Valentine’s Day present for the man in your life. I know that mine sure loved his.

Giveaway: ZipBelt is offering $50 to ZipBelt.com. This giveaway will end on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 4 pm MDT.
