Hale Centre Theatre in West Valley is one of my favorite date night locations which is odd because as of three years ago, I couldn’t stand to go to plays or musicals. However, my husband loves plays and musicals and took me to see “Wicked” when it was in town because he knew that I would love it. I went, mostly for him, and oddly enough, I loved it. Then “Les Miserables” was playing at Hale Centre Theatre and he knew I’d want to see that one as well so he bought as tickets and I fell in love.
Hale Centre Theatre in West Valley City is not that close to where I live but we make the journey up there a few times a year to see one of their plays or musicals. Currently, “Sister Act” is playing. Apparently it’s a movie from the ’90s but I somehow missed that and had never heard of the story before we went to see “Sister Act” as a play.
The actors were hilarious, the story was well-performed, and the music was great. I had a hard time sitting still in my seat – I just wanted to keep dancing to the music. I won’t give away the whole story for those of you like me who had never heard of the play before but essentially, a lady needs to be put into hiding and ends up trying to blend in with devout nuns.
HCT will present more than 60 consecutive performances of Sister Act. Performance times are 7:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and matinees Saturdays at 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m through December 3. No performances will be held November 24. No children under the age of five are permitted in the theater. Ticket prices are a great value for this fun production, at only $32 for adults and $16 for children ages five through 11.
For ticket information call 801-984-9000, go to www.hct.org, or visit the box office at 3333 S. Decker Lake Drive in West Valley City. For updates, contests and information on the current theater season, follow Hale Centre Theatre on Facebook. In conjunction with the production, the HCT Applauds recipient for Sister Act is the Utah Refugee Center. The Utah Refugee Center provides resources to meet the unique needs of the 1,100 refugees resettled in Utah each year.
Hale Centre Theatre is also building a new theater in Sandy just off of I-15. It will have two stages, one round stage and one regular stage. It will open in 2017 with “Forever Plaid” from September 1-November 15 and “Aida” from November 17-January 20.
