I just want to talk about Operation Smile for a moment.  And please forget that this is a sponsored post because it has nothing to do with the fact that someone wanted me to do write about this but everything to do with these beautiful children and what Operation Smile is doing about it.

Every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft and one in ten of those will die before their first birthday.  For those who survive, they may not be able to smile, eat, or socialize by speaking.  Today as I watched my one-year old, I couldn’t imagine not being able to hear his laughter, listen to him talk to me, or to see his huge smile when he thinks he’s being funny.  However, there are many parents in the world who do not get to experience this with their children because their children were born with a cleft and they do not have the funds or means to be able to pay for a surgery.

Operation Smile is making it possible for children and young adults to get the surgeries they need.  It began in 1982 and with the help of dedicated medical volunteers, has been able to perform over 200,000 free surgeries.  They have also gone in and trained the local doctors so that even those of the poorest of countries can get the care that they need.

CampusBookRentals.com has informed us that they actually donate a portion of their profits from each rented textbook with their new website, RentBack.com.  RentBack is, in my opinion, a great idea because a person can rent their book out repeatedly instead of just selling it. Plus I absolutely love that they are donating to Operation Smile.

I wish I still had books that I could rent but I’m pretty sure my textbooks are way out of date now.
